Photography
Presented here is some of my photographic work. Most are newer shots done with a digital camera but there are also a few 35MM darkroom-developed shots incorporated in as well. I have taken Photography courses throughout my education and have experience with digital and 35MM SLR, along with black-and-white darkroom knowledge.
Color 35MM film, printed on slides. This was a photographic documentation of a 3D object I constructed out of foam core. I used spot lighting and a black cloth backdrop to achieve the desired effect of the object "floating" in space.
Black & White 35MM film, printed in the darkroom. I placed the instrument back into the natural environment that its wooden materials had originally come from, and used shadow and angle to create a composition that is appealing.
Digital; taken May 2005 at LaDew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, Maryland. Close-up shot with afternoon sunlight to bring out the rich, vibrant color of the bloom.
Digital photo taken May 2005 at LaDew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, Maryland. I chose a vertical shot to depict the overall look and feel of the miniature waterfall at this Japanese Garden. It seemed to go on forever before ending at a large Koi Pond, but I thought each small section had its own unique and tranquil quality.
A shot taken on one of the many gorge 'cliffs' overlooking the river. The sun was in and out all day due to a breeze, but I was still able to get a lot of very rich colors and reflections.
A nice shot of one of the three large waterfalls at Letchworth, showcasing the beautiful cliff walls. The leaves were just beginning to change and so I got a wide variety of color between all of the greens and oranges.
Another semi-aerial shot from the railroad tracks, with more light blues and sun in the shot to create a different kind of feel.
This was a piece I created as a modular artwork - something made out of everyday objects, transforming it into something other than its originally intended use. In this case I used thumbtacks and used photography to make such a small, miniscule object appear as something enormous and commanding. I used different types of indoor & outdoor lighting and a strong use of bold colors.

On a casual weekend visit to Cleveland, Ohio, I discovered a beautiful old side street which was home to an expensive restaurant and a quaint shop or two. During daylight hours it was cute, but at night, the lighting made it spectacular. The variety of everchanging colors of the standalone lights and the repetition of the lights gave this street a particularly unique look and feel.

In September 2005 I was excited to travel to Tampa Bay and Clearwater, Florida, where I was able to get some amazing images on the beach, which sits on the Gulf of Mexico. Here I decided to do a sunset shot looking directly through the wheat waving gently in the breeze. This gave some up-close blur and far-away focus, which heightens the drama and depth of field.
In September 2005 I was excited to travel to Tampa Bay and Clearwater, Florida, where I was able to get some amazing images on the beach, which sits on the Gulf of Mexico. With such a sunny environment, it was hard to get an afternoon shot without the orange glow of the sun, but here I was able to achieve a lighter color scheme. The tiny seashells littering the shore, the closer ones blurred, lead the eye out into the water where the remnants of an old dock still stand.
This was part of a series of digital photographs I shot in Alden, NY. I wanted to use the brightness of the out-of-season flowers to create a bold contrast against the white snow of the dead winter. I also experimented with perspective, shadows, focus, and composition. It was by far one of my favorite pieces to shoot.
